‘Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera’, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 crime thriller, has taken down ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ from their claim of the top spot at the box office following a $15.5 million opening.

The film has claimed the top spot that has been a battle between ‘Mufasa’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ which are both still among the top films at the box office, landing in second and third place respectively, according to Indie Wire.

According to the synopsis: “Big Nick is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie, who is embroiled in the treacherous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.”

The film stars Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr, and Evin Ahmad.

With the Oscar nominations on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how box office performances will factor into the nomination process.
