The box office is humming after ‘Inside Out 2’ posted the biggest opening thus far in 2024 pulling in a whopping $62 million on it’s release day across Friday and preview screenings from 4,440 locations, according to Variety.
The new animated film from Pixar Animation Studios is projected to easily surpass the $82.5 million debut earned by “Dune: Part Two” to overtake it as the biggest domestic opening of 2024 where it will also become the first release to notch a nine-figure domestic opening in nearly 11 months, being the first film to do so since last summer’s smash hit ‘Barbie’ opened.
The film will now join the ranks of some of Pixar’s biggest domestic openings ever, such as “Incredibles 2” ($182 million), “Finding Dory” ($135 million), “Toy Story 4” ($120 million) and “Toy Story 3” ($110 million).
The film is also being received with strong reviews and an A grade on Cinema Score, showing that audiences are also raving about the film.
Directed by Kelsey Mann, the new film tells the story of: “The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.” A trailer, poster and film stills are now available for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of Summer 2024.”
“Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have been running a successful operation by all accounts. However, when Anxiety shows up, they aren’t sure how to feel.”
