Comedian Nate Bargatze, who is recognized by Pollstar as being the world’s top earning comic, is set to do his very first primetime special which will be an hour-long, holiday themed variety show for CBS, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show, which is being produced by Lorne Michaels and his Broadway Video, is currently slated to land this December and will also stream on Paramount+.
“I’m extremely excited to be creating this special as I have long been a big fan of variety, and we don’t see enough of it,” Bargatze said an official statement issued this week. “I want to make a great show for families to gather around and watch together and I couldn’t be in better hands than with this team.”
Bargatze is collaborating with Saturday Night Live’s Mikey Day and co-head writer Streeter Seidell who worked with Bargatze on his viral sketch, called “Washington’s Dream”, on Saturday Night Live.
While there aren’t many details regarding the project, Bargatze intends to film the special on November 21st, at the iconic Grand Ole Opry, where he started his career in comedy working as an entry-level employee.
During the performance, Bargatze will serve as master of ceremonies and will entertain through a mix of stand up comedy, sketch work, musical performances and pre-taped bits.
Michaels, Bargatze, Erin David and Andrew Singer of Broadway Video as well as Tim Sarkes and Alex Murray of Brillstein Entertainment are all aboard as executive producers.
