Ahead of the start of the 2023 NBA Finals there were concerns that the matchup between the Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets and the Eastern Conference Miami Heat would not translate to strong television ratings.
However, those concerns have been silenced thus far as the NBA Finals is now tied at 1-1 heading back to Miami, with the Game 2 shocking victory for the Heat in Denver, where the Nuggets hadn’t lost in several weeks, being the key banner marker.
According to ESPN’s Ben Cafardo, Game 2 between the Heat and Nuggets matched last year’s viewership numbers for Game 2 between the 2022 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics.
Per the report, Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals, which was broadcasted on ABC, matched last year’s average audience numbers for Game 2 – between Golden State and Boston – with 11,910,000 viewers (via Nielsen).
