One film that has been getting rave reviews has been Todd Field’s 168-minute masterpiece ‘TAR’ which stars Cate Blanchett which made it’s official debut back on October 7th and has received rave reviews since.
According to the official synopsis: “Renowned musician Lydia Tár is days away from recording the symphony that will elevate her career. When all elements seem to conspire against her, Lydia’s adopted daughter Petra becomes an integral emotional support for her struggling mother.”
Noémie Merlant, who played Francesca Lentini in the film, spoke about Blanchett’s awe-inspiring performance, and how it impacted her.
“I tried to feed my character with something true. I was in the audience observing Cate in the process of creation of her role, embodying her character,” Merlant said, during an interview with Indie Wire. “At the same time, since I’m a huge, huge admirer of Cate, I used this feeling for Francesca who was observing Lydia in the process of creation. I was really doing the parallel between Noémie and Francesca, with the same feeling of admiration and observation.”
“TÁR’ leaves everything up to interpretation, both for the actors and the engaged viewer. Whether or not one sees Lydia and Francesca’s relationship as an abuse of a certain power dynamic, the film never casts judgement on its central character. For Merlant, the open-ended provocations are what drew her most to the project.
TAR has garnered a lot of attention and fanfare, and Fields is rising as one of the up and coming film content creators to come out of 2022.
