The legendary Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino is known to make the movies ‘HE’ wants. Luckily for him and us, his movies end up making huge money at the box office and award-worthy as well. With that being said, it is still a shocker for many that an auteur director of his caliber has never directed a franchise movie of any kind. But, it seems like that may change very soon. Quentin Tarantino was caught by TMZ earlier and they asked him whether or not he would like to direct a Star Trek movie. Tarantino who was rushing to catch his flight – answered:
“It’d be worth taking a meeting about.”
This may not sound so convincing but Tarantino could have just said ‘no’ and move on. Instead, he gave an answer that reveals his intention of creating a Star Trek movie before his retirement. The reason why TMZ asked Tarantino this question point blank is interesting. Tarantino was interviewed earlier – shortly after J.J Abrams was announced as the new director of Star Wars 9. They asked Tarantino whether he would be interested in directing the Star Wars movie now. Tarantino replied that he’s more interested in Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek franchise. This is more than enough to deduce that if Tarantino was given the choice to direct a franchise movie, it would definitely be Star Trek.
The legendary director announced a while ago that he will officially retire after directing 2 more movies. We know one of those movies is going to be about the events of Manson murders. This means that he’ll make just one more movie after that and it looks like he wants Star Trek to be his last. Star Trek 4 is currently in the works and has no director officially attached to the project. There are reports that Star Trek 4 will feature Chris Hemsworth who’ll be returning as George Kirk and star alongside Chris Pine‘s James Kirk, his on-screen son. Since Abrams is now going to be busy with Star Wars 9, Justin Lin who directed Star Trek Beyond may be approached once again for the job. We just hope the chiefs of Paramount at least schedule a meeting with Quentin Tarantino and see how that goes. Stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
