Thor: Ragnarok Dominates The Box Office With $121 Million

No surprises there, Marvel’s highly-anticipated Thor: Ragnarok dominated the box office and even managed to exceed the expected opening projections of a $100 million opening. 2017, so far, proved to be a relatively slow year for the box office with a lot of bombs and flops but with Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Justice League and Star Wars: The Last Jedi things are finally heating up at the box office. Thor: Ragnarok opened in 4,080 theaters and set an impressive $29,658 per-screen average at the US box office. The movie was released last weekend and has already raked in an impressive $107.6 million at the international box office. Thor: Ragnarok was made on a budget of $180 million and has managed to amass $427 million worldwide, which is more than double its production cost. Thanks to this impressive show and a with a 93% rating on Rotten TomatoesThor: Ragnarok just became the second best-reviewed movie in MCU history slightly behind 2008’s Iron Man which is still holding a stellar score of 94%.

Coming in second at the box office was STX Entertainment’s A Bad Moms Christmas that earned $17 million at the box office. The movie is the sequel to last year’s R-rated surprise hit comedy, Bad Moms. A Bad Moms Christmas opened in theaters a few days earlier than Thor: Ragnarok on November 1st and since then has raked in $28 million worldwide on a budget of $28.2 million. Amy (Mila Kunis), Kiki (Kristen Bell) and Carla (Kathryn Hahn) make their return once again in the sequel and this time these overworked and overburdened moms have to deal with their own moms (Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Susan Sarandon) while creating the perfect holiday for their families on Christmas.

No other movie managed to even come close to the fraction of amount what Thor: Ragnarok made and it looks like the only other movie that has the potential to match (or probably top) the results of Thor: Ragnarok is Justice League slated to release on November 17, 2017. You can check out the rest of the top 10 movies at this week’s box office below and stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
