2017 may not have been the best year for a lot of fans but you won’t find these 10 actors making any complaints. According to this year’s list of Forbes’ highest grossing actors, Vin Diesel is the man who brought in more cash than any other actor in Hollywood. Gal Gadot makes it to the 3rd spot on the list and she’s also the highest grossing actress of 2017. Last year, Forbes listed actors like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Margot Robbie and Amy Adams as the highest grossing actors but this years’ list looks a lot different. Let’s take a look at 2017’s highest grossing actors and their astonishing accomplishments.
1. Vin Diesel – $1.6 Billion
Judging by the names on this list, it’s shocking that Vin Diesel was able to make it to the top. The actor raked in a whopping $1.6 Billion from worldwide box office all thanks to movies like The Fate of The Furious and xXx: Return of the Xander Cage.
Both these movies made $1.23 Billion and $346.1 million respectively at the worldwide box office, crowning Diesel as the highest grossing actor of 2017. Interestingly, Forbes did not count Diesel’s voice work as Groot in this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 otherwise those numbers would have looked even more impressive than they already appear to be.
2. Dwayne Johnson – $1.5 Billion
Dwayne Johnson secured the second spot with an impressive $1.5 Billion, slightly behind his Fate of The Furious co-star. His other movie that hit theaters this year was Baywatch and even though it failed to impress the majority of the audience, the movie still managed to make $177.9 million. Forbes did not take into account the numbers from his latest movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle that hit theaters just a few days ago.
3. Gal Gadot – $1.4 Billion
The Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot became the 3rd highest grossing actor overall and the highest grossing actress of 2017 thanks to her movies Wonder Woman and Justice League. Fans loved her version of the Amazonian Princess so much that her movie made $822 million worldwide. She reprised the role later in Justice League and even though the movie itself received mixed reactions from fans and critics alike, it still added approximately $578 million to Gadot’s box office gross tally.
4. Emma Watson – $1.3 Billion
You knew her before as the wonderful witch Hermione Granger from the magical world of Harry Potter, but this year she melted the heart of a beast in Disney’s live-action Beauty and The Beast. The movie raked in a whopping $1.263 Billion at the worldwide box office beating Vin Diesel’s Fate of The Furious. Emma’s second movie that hit theaters this year was The Circle. This sci-fi drama also featured Oscar winner Tom Hanks and John Boyega but that still couldn’t save the movie from tanking at the box office.
5. Johnny Depp – $1.1 Billion
Largely thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the versatile Johnny Depp manages to get in the top 5. Depp reprised the role of the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow in the 5th installment of the Pirates of The Caribbean series and this year the movie made $794.8 Million at the worldwide box office. Depp also appeared as Ratchett in Murder on the Orient Express which proved to be a dark horse at the box office and raked in $302.5 million on a modest budget of $55 million.
6. Daisy Ridley – $1.08 Billion
Daisy Ridley made it to the 6th spot due to her brilliant performances as Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and as Mary Debenham in Murder on the Orient Express. She’ll next be seen on screen working alongside the next actor on this list, in the 3D live-action adventure/comedy, Peter Rabbit on February 9th, 2018.
7. Tom Holland – $888 million
Everybody’s favorite Tom Holland makes it to the 7th spot on this list on the back of his blockbuster movie, Spider-man: Home Coming. The movie made an impressive $880.2 million worldwide and launched Tom Holland’s career and net worth into the stratosphere. His other movie that graced the theaters this year was a thriller/drama, Pilgrimage but failed to make a significant impact.
8. Chris Pratt – $864 Million
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 proved to be a massive hit at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office and banked in $863.6 million. Due to the movie’s massive success, Chris Pratt managed to secure the 8th spot on this year’s highest grossing actors list. We’ll be seeing a lot more of Starlord in Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
9. Chris Hemsworth – $845 Million
Another Superhero who made it to the list is Chirs Hemsworth. He is Marvel’s resident God of Thunder, Thor and his movie, Thor: Ragnarok not only made a cool $844.9 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $180 million but also became the second best-reviewed movie in MCU history.
10. John Boyega – $815 Million
Last but definitely not the least, we have the talented John Boyega who rounds up the list of Forbes Highest Grossing Actors of 2017. Boyega appeared in 3 movies this year that hit theaters namely, The Circle, Detroit and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Even though his performance in all three movies was great, the movie largely responsible to put Boyega on this list (and on the map) is, you guessed it, The Last Jedi which made $450 million in just 3 DAYS after making its way to theaters worldwide.
